Fasting is quite common in many cultures. But one of the reasons for fasting is to see visions. You can achieve somewhat the same result by forcing yourself to stay awake for more than 48 hours.
I once had a friend who was almost grossly overweight. At various times he would fast for about a week, eating nothing, and would lose a lot of it. (But then he would gain it back. He admitted he normally ate like a pig.)
Basically, a lot depends on your own, individual metabolism and so it is impossible to predict the results for any one person. You might be wiser just to not eat every second day, and force yourself to eat normally (or less) on the days you eat. Or try eating a little at each meal instead of a lot.
Self-starving will cause you to loose weight, but a lot of it will just be water and will come right back. True weight loss for most people will take time. If you just don’t eat, your body will tend to enter starvation mode and just refuse to give you energy. You will become tired and have difficulty concentrating. For most people self starving is very difficult if they are trying to live a normal life at the same time.
But again, everyone is different.
Not eating is worse for your body than eating. There is a common mis-conception out there that if you eat 2 or 3 meals a day you will be fine. WRONG! Most professionals say that you should eat about 7-8 meals a day. I’m not talking like what you’d eat for dinner, there is a fine line between what I do, and what most people do. If you eat small snacks, that are packed with vitamins and minerals, I guarentee that you will lose weight. Small portions, like 1-2 apples or something like that. Naked juice is very good for you (I would recommend buying some immediately), not eating though, you are ridding your body of needed items. Fat is energy that your body stores while you are asleep. Let’s say you had italian food for dinner, the carbohydrates in the pasta will be stored as fat in your body overnight. Eating protien (meats, poultry, etc.) before dinner will help you lose weight, and also repair your muscles. Not eating is bad, eating small amounts when your hungry is the way to do it.
Honestly, it is not a good idea to starve oneself to loose weight due to the serious ramifications of depriving your body of energy and nutrients. Not only will you most likely feel fatigued all the time, it dampens one’s concentration, puts one is a perpetually sour mood, slows down the metabolism (which slows down weight loss altogether) and dampens one’s health.
That being said, I believe that a person can go from four to eights weeks (depending on the person’s bodily fat content). Still, unless dire circumstances truly challenge your ability to eat anything at all, I would advise you not to starve yourself. I has two lapses on anorexia nervosa (and even then, I did not completely starve myself; just ate very little and exercised way too much) and both of them took a serious toll on my eyes-sight and blood circulation. You would be a lot better off eating four to six times a day/1200+ calories and working out regularly. Yes, it will take a bit longer to lose weight this way; but it is better overall for you than starvation will ever be.
