Healthy Eating & Dieting?

I have been trying to loose weight for 3 years now~ and while ive had some success ive had alot more failure afterwards. a diet is good for the first 6 or so weeks then it fails and i gain all the weight back and more, its like my body doesn’t react to the diet anymore, i change it around and it just doesn’t work, however my question is, how can i go about eating healthy and eating food i actually like~ its alright if you eat salads and fish and etc…but we don’t all do it… not to whinge..but surely there has to be another way??? yes i am considering lap band, going through with that with my doctor, i just don’t know what else i can do, im so tired and frustrated with my weight and it just wont shift! and now its affecting other parts of myself…

When diabetes sets in, you learn quickly how to eat right.
Since my mom has developed this disease, I have been online reading everything about nutrition and carbohydrates and this deadly disease caused by bad eating. The bottom line is simple and applies to all of us. Processed foods will not only make you fat, it will kill you. The number one cause for this illness and for obesity is high fructose corn syrup.
Food label reading is very important when trying to maintain (or loose) weight and stay healthy. I personally recommend organic foods since many organic products tend to be void of harmful ingredients. Still, it goes a step further to understand what carbohydrates are. Even with organic foods, it is best to avoid over processed carbs such as ‘instant’ foods like oatmeal since this changes the glycemic index of the carb. (I attached a great video that explains this). Since oatmeal is a favorite, I buy it in it’s rawest form, steel cut oats. Takes a little longer to cook, but it’s so high in protein and nutrients and keeps you satisfied for hours. Tastes better too. Raw grain carbohydrates make all the difference in the world. Same with bread. I use the bible bread called Ezekiel 4:9 found in Shoprite, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. Excellent form of carbs. You can’t over eat it since even one slice is so filling. All raw grains have this same effect. You will find yourself eating less naturally. Pasta is a great diet food too. When cooked right, nice and firm or al dente, it is a wonderful weight loss food. I personally like Jerusalem Artichoke by DeBoyles. Again, even with pasta, I am avoiding ingredients that say “enriched” since this indicates it is an over processed food.
Who says dieting tastes so bad? Chocolate is the highest in antioxidants, more than red wine and blueberries and I have included this in my mom’s diet with great results. Of course I use chocolate that is high in cacao since that is where the healthy part comes from. I used chocolate to lower blood pressure and it worked!
I feed a family of 4 and every one of us is loosing weight on this whole grain diet. The diet was created more for health reasons and loosing the weight is just a bonus.
Last but not least, we eat delicious homemade foods like chicken soup (so easy to make), pastas, sweet and sour chicken, and the creative list goes on… My family loves the food and no one is starving. So eating healthy and loosing weight can be a wonderful experience. It’s a diet for life.
If you cant afford organic foods and saving money on food is an issue, just remember this, what you save now, will go to the doctors later. My mom never wanted to spend extra money on good foods, now there is no choice. Her medical bills for this disease alone topped 80 thousand dollars in hospital bills. Just food for thought!

Unfortunately, from personal experience, I must tell you, it isn’t just about the food…..exercise is absolutely the key to healthy weight control, plus eating the food pyramid…fruits, vegetables, protein, carbs, etc…..Walking is a great way to exercise without killing yourself….but as you know all of it takes a strong commitment to sustain this healthy behavior….I think about it all the time, but only work at it in spurts….so I continue to be overweight, unhealthy and frustrated…..one of these days hopefully, I will start doing the exercise and eating right and stick with it…Try not to do the surgery…..it really is a risk that also carries a strong commitment with it too…..And people who have it can overcome the banding as well and while they loose weight at first, poor habits overtake them, and they will gain it back…..
