In some ways, yes. In some ways, no.
Yes because you're not getting a lot of excess fat and calories. No because you're not getting a lot of iron and other important vitamins.
Don't read what PETA says. They will tell people anything to get them to switch. Just eat lean meat a couple of times a week, and any fat that's on it, trim it off before you cook it. Remember to eat more fruits and vegetables than anything else, and be sure to get some dairy in there too.

More healthy, I think both diets are healthy, it just depends on the persons choice.
I am a meat eater, but that does not mean that my diet choice is healthier than that of a vegaterian.

Provided you have a balanced diet and include all food groups and research first, then yes a vegetarian diet is healthier. I don't have the references (cleaned out a lot of stuff when we moved!) but vegetarians tend to be healthier and to live longer.
Also, if you look up various illnesses and foods to help, then you'll see that fresh fruit & veg top the list most times.
Blessings, Gypsy Queen
PS: Make sure you don't overdo soy products, as it contains hormones which aren't good in large doses.

Not really, no. A well balanced diet is the best thing for you. When you eat a strict vegitarian diet you have to compensate for all the missed nutrients by taking all sorts of supplements.

Yes, but I am a vegetarian for purely health reasons, not for Peta's. Studies have shown that vegetarians live 5 years longer and also have fewer cardiovascular problems in life. I believe they also have more energy because meat is harder to digest so it takes away energy for digestion. All that talk about needing meat for a balanced diet is bogus. I get tons of protein in nuts and whole grains. I do take vitamins but if you stick to whole grains and fruits you get every nuturient you need.

Apparently meat contains dioxins which are carcinogenic, so it is possible that prolonged consumption will be detrimental to your health.
However, some people who are vegetarians do not eat enoigh protein rich foods (to provide the protein that a meat diet would have) and end up anaemic, suffering from hair loss etc.
A vegetarian diet is very good for you, but you need to put an more consideration into your daily diet, ensuring you eat enough beans, pulses and legumes. Enjoy the chick peas :)
