You're on the right track--that's a good outlook to have (you will add years to your life!)
This might give you some good tips on how to add healthy foods to your diet. People don't eat enough fiber and this gives really good information.http://buzz.prevention.com/fiber-up-with…
Good luck :)

You mention a vegetarian diet, this is the diet I would recommend for you. Make sure you are getting all the essential nutrients. This diet should include fruits, nuts, grains, vegetables. Eat your meal on a cyclic basic (i.e. do not snack). Drink water regularly (about three times per day - one to two glasses each sitting)
Hope this was helpful?

The best diet your can follow for primarily good health is the Low
Glycemic diet.
Diets that tell you to cut carbs are very dangerous, not for the extra protein that you intake, no - Not at all, the real problem is the lack of fibre.
Low fat diets are just as bad, the body NEEDS fat to heal, grow and function normally.
On the Low GI diet you eat healthy, natural fresh foods, but you avoid high sugar foods and processed carbohydrate.
Carbohydrates are not evil, Low GI carbohydrates give you the best natural source of vitamins, minerals and fibre.
Good Low GI carbs include: Oats, Apples, Cherries(yum) Multigrain bread and grapefruit.
There are many more.
Here is a list of 18 really great Low GI foods:http://www.thesolutionwebsite.com/LowGly…

Drink less sodas. They're full off chemicals and often caffiene. Water is a lot better for you. So is orange juice, it's full of Vitamin C. Milk is great, too. Lots of calcium.
Don't eat too much meat. Meat is healthy and important for a healthy, balanced diet, but too much of it tends to be very fatty. Consume chicken and/or beef daily.
Avoid the over-eating of spagetti. It's ok if you eat it once in a while, but if you eat too much it'll make you fat, plus it's pretty high in cholesterol. It's better to eat rice, anyways.
Keep a balanced diet of fruits and veggies. Try to eat more apples, pears, peaches, oranges, grapes, carrots, celery, and broccoli. Your Fs & Vs are a must for a healthy and well-balanced diet.
Also, make sure you exercise daily. Good exercise methods include sprinting, jumping-jacks, hand-stands, backbends, and so forth.
Good luck with your healthy lifestyle!
