Diets don't work that's really all there is to it, it's about lifestyle change. In fact there are some really unhealthy soups out there as it's all about the ingredients. You'll lose the weight temporarily but then you'll just put it back on. The only way to lose weight permanently is to continue with a normal, balanced diet and just make sure you burn more calories than you consume. BUT To answer your question: just because it is soup doesn't mean it isn't jam-packed with calories. Those soups are "hearty" precisely because they are filled with calories.
