On A Diet And Eating Out At A Chinese Restaurant, Any Suggestions?

It’s my friends birthday and we are going out to a Chinese restaurant for a meal. I don’t want to be defensive about being on a diet. Can anyone suggested anything from a typical Chinese menu, I’m on a Weightwatchers diet. Thanks in advance

Steamed vegetables and brown rice. It’ll fill you up, and if you like ask them to season the vegetables with garlic for some added flavor.

Chicken with pineapple is really nice, and team it with boiled rice and you’re on to a winner.
According to my weightwatchers points booklet, chicken with pineapple is worth 3 points, and a portion of boiled rice is 6.5 (I think).
In the booklet that I have, it lists the points of eating out, so it will show you how many points typical chinese things are worth.
Perhaps do some aerobic exercise around the house today, and earn yourself some bonus points to use.

Why not just give yourself the night off of the diet? It is a special occasion after all.
If you are keen to follow it though, just use common sense – nothing fried, lots of veggies, etc.

Either Chop Suey or Chow Mein… I cannot remember which is which but one of them is just basically veg… not the one with the noodles and gravy/sauce… I think Chow Mein is the one you need to go for… It has all the bamboo shoots, mange tout, bean-sprouts etc etc etc… :)

Go for boiled rice instead of fried with steamed or stir fried chicken & veg. Avoid anything in batter and stay away from the appetisers.
Think about the kind of sauce your food comes in, dishes in a watery sauce like chop suey will have less fat & calories than thicker sauces like sweet & sour, that said you could just choose whatever you want and eat point free food tomorrow.

Start with a clear soup such as chicken and mushroom.Choose a dish that contains lots of bean shoots and have boiled rice with it, not fried.

I don’t know much about diets but try avoiding meat and sauces

Order something with a high proportion of vegetables, and rice because it has a lot of carbohydrates, but make sure it’s steamed, and start off with soup to fill you up. I think if you ask at the resturant for meals low in fat, they can help you out. Beware of crispy…

Select something with steamed veggies; most chinese restaurants now have a healthy section where you can find this, although if not you’ll just have to search harder.
I’d hit the vegetarian section and find something steamed. If you cannot get brown rice, be sure to go easy on the rice when you’re eating, and leave some on your plate.
    Have fun!
