My husband had gained too much weight from weight gainer when he was getting back into fighting shape and all he did to lose the fat but not the muscle was cut carbs and eat more protein. And he went from 3 meals a day to 6 small meals, chix or fish with a leafy green veg and protein shake. He went from 225 of fat (around the belly) and muscle to 210 of solid muscle. He also increased his reps on his weights (he uses 110 lbs on curl bar, 280 lbs bench press, 100 lbs on that overhead pull down bar thing and 55 lbs on his hand weights). I think he is now doing 10 reps of each 3 x a day and his muscles are very defined now...instead of just looking like a huge guy (6'4") he looks very cut and muscular. Weight loss pills are going to make you lose muscle too so I'd stay away from those. The above really worked for him.

When I was doing this, I just decreased my calorie intake. The calories responsible for most of your fat stores are simple carbohydrates, so start by cutting those out of your diet first. You can also look at each meal and reduce it by a few hundred calories. Your goal should be smaller meals to decrease your overall calorie intake. You can also increase the cardio you're doing. This will burn calories and help you get rid of some fat.
Depending on how much weight you want to lose, you might not lose any muscle. I dropped 15 pounds in a bit over 2 months and my weights went down a bit but mostly stayed the same.

take your fat burner first thing when you wake up at least a half hour before you eat. take your prohormone or T shot (if applicable) now too. a light walk for 20 to 45 minutes would be great here (time for just you and the dog) because itll get you warmed up and start moving those supps through your body.
make sure you east a decent breakfast. everyday. no matter what. force yourself if you have to. stay away from sugars during breakfast. a decent amount of carbs with some lean protein.
snack on fruits, veggies, cottage cheese, raisins, peanuts etc..
medium sized lunch. again protein with some carbs. if your crunched for time, i love a frozen dinner with low sodium and a big salad with olive oil/balsamic vinegar/basil for dressing.
begin to reduce carbs and milkfats for the day.
veggies and water. plenty of water.
for dinner i love a big juicy steak and half or three quarters of a bag of frozen veggies with a little butter, a shake of garlic powder, and a nice sprinkle of creole seasoning.
mix it up and have a steak salad, a chicken salad or whatever you want with high proteins (that make you feel fuller) and low or no carbs.
if you just want to maintain your muscle and are only concerned with losing fat, move your workouts to first thing in the morning before you eat.
good luck, never give up.
wherever there are new horizons there can always be new goals.

Read the Abs Diet, by David Zinczenko. It's amazing and it's specifically for men who want to lose fat and bulk. I did it, as a woman, and now I have a six pack and all that.
It's basically 6 small meals a day, lots of protein (almonds, chicken, meat, etc.) and whey protein smoothies.
Expect to lose around 12 pounds in the first 2 weeks and up to 20 on the 6-week plan. It's more eating for life but it doesnt' restrict anything.

first i'm going to suggest that you go to the website burnthefat.com and then download Tom Venuto's ebook about bodybuilidng. that is going to give you a complete set of tools to get your body exactly to where you want it. just of the top of my head because i'm in the process of getting my personal training certification, i can tell you this:
now's the time your going to want to get in a calorie deficit and like you said up your cardio. high intensity interval training will probably work the best and fastest for you. your going to want to play around with your caloric intake because you need to find a number where you won't lose too much muscle mass and that still gives you enough energy to work out. this is generally about 2200-2700 calories a day for men. expect to lose a little though. also, you should figure out what body fat percentage is your goal. you can do this by purchasing some skin fold calipers and getting somebody to measure you on a weekly basis. if you are trying to get real real lean like a body builder at competition time you must understand that this is a PEAK state and not a year round state for them. this is because its unhealthy to eat such few calories and such high protein amounts all year round. nor will your body let you. or is your goal to just stay lean year round? decided for yourself what you want and commit fully to it. the ebook will really really help you out though. its sorta expensive but weeeelllll worth it.

I wouldn't suggest you go extremely low fat as this could affect your testosterone production. Instead, slowly reduce your calories each week. If you reduce them too fast, your metabolism will slow down. First, cut out any obviously unhealthy foods (fast food and sodas for example). Then cut out simple carbs (except for after a workout). Eat plenty of fats, but make sure they are healthy fats. As you reduce your calories, take them away from carbs first. Then take them away from fats. Do not take them away from protein (maintain one gram per pound). Also, make sure you eat around six times a day.
I don't think a Met Rx diet will shrink your stomach. Stomach shrinking will take a few weeks. Also a sudden MetRx only diet will cause a sharp drop in calories per day which will slow your metabolism.
Don't forget to ramp up your post weightlifting cardio to help burn fat.
This should help you get lean. If you need to get into contest shape, I would visit bodybuilding.com and read everything you can on dieting.
Good luck.
