Would It Be Possible To Live Healthily Off A Vegetarian Diet, Eating Products Only Grown?

Within a 10 square mile area.
Assuming you don’t have any greenhouse equipment and you only grow indigonous vegetation, what crops would you need to grow and would it be possible, to have a healthy balanced diet based on this?

IT depends entirely on where you live, of course. Cameroon, probably; North Dakota, not a chance.

People in temperate climates would have to preserve them somehow, either by canning or pickling them. My grandmother cans plenty of vegetables from her garden for winter consumption.

It’s very possible, but you’ll have to get your protein from somewhere….But if you want to be a vegen (only eat plans) try like a natural food store. http://www.expertvillage.com/interviews/vegan.h… There is a web sigt..hope I helped.

Yes, no problem. Many people, particularly in poorer temperate countries do this quite successfully.
Although the world “indigonous” is a bit problematic. Would you be willing to change that word for “grown without aides such as heat, artificial light or chemicals”. Most veggies were imported to western world contries and so not indigenous

You’d be buggered if you wanted any omega three oils. Or B12. And it would need to be sunny, or darker skinned people would get rickets (vit D deficiency).
Depends where you live really, some places have a wider variety of native protein rich plants than others. Problems like kwashiorkor, pellagra and beri beri would occur in a lot of, and probably most, locations. Without the O3 oils you’d risk depression, and worsen other mental health problems. And it’d mess with you central nervous system too. Some people are prone to low uric acid in the blood on veg diets, so you’d be looking at triggering MS in the susceptible, low blood pressure and poor clotting, and general fatigue.

No, you’ll get short of Vitamin B12 and collapse if you are a Vegan.

Ha ha… literally everyone in the world used to live like this. So, of course it’s not only possible, it has been done and continues to be done.
The real question would be the word “indigenous”, because nearly all of the food we currently eat, or grow in our gardens has originally come from another place in the world. You would have to learn the native ways of where ever you live.

Please ignore the response from Roy S. He is a moron.
I would opt for a small green house in addition to your outdoor garden as you can get the assemble yourself greenhouse kits for pretty cheap. You can grow your own food and live off of it, the only problem is that you may get bored with the limited things you get to eat. For example, you can forget about Pineapples, as they take 2 years to mature. I would focus on growing the bulk of your fresh greens, but still go to the market to get some of your food.
